Three Chinese nationals—Xia Lei, Wu Yingzhuo, and Dong Hao—were indicted in September 2017 for operating as part of Boyusec, a hacking group that targeted U.S. and foreign companies in financial, engineering, and technology sectors. Between 2011 and May 2017, the conspirators allegedly breached corporate networks to steal over 400 gigabytes of sensitive data and confidential communications. The case remains significant as it highlights ongoing cyber espionage threats from state-sponsored or state-affiliated hacking operations targeting American intellectual property.
